Mass for Frank Schalkowski, a former carpenter who was the first police chief of Schiller Park, was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Beatrice Catholic Church, Irving Park and Wagner roads in Schiller Park. Mr. Schalkowski, 85, of 4133 Prairie Av., Schiller Park, died Tuesday in a hospital in Waupaca, Wis. He became police chief after World War I. when Schiller Park was known as Kolze. Mr. Schalkowski was the entire police force. After eight years, he left the force to work as a carpenter. He belonged to Carpenters Union Local 839, Veterans of World War I Barracks No. 1384, and St. Anthony De Padua Council Knights of Columbus No. 1949. He is survived by his wife, Helen; 2 sons, Albert and Raymond; 2 daughters, Lois Grote and Thelma LaTurno; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; 15 grandchildren; and 5 greatgrandchildren.
