Erma M. Dobbertien, 87, of Marshall, died on Friday, January 7, 2011, at her home.
Mrs. Dobbertien was born on December 14, 1923, in Mecosta, Michigan, to Henry and Emma (Bauman) Abel. She graduated from Mecosta High School in 1941. On May 7, 1949, she married William H. Dobbertien in Battle Creek. He preceded her in death in September 1998.
Mrs. Dobbertien was a clerk for State Farm Insurance Company in Marshall for 18 years. She retired in 1981. She enjoyed gardening, being out in her yard, traveling, and spending the winters in Florida. Mrs. Dobbertien was an avid Michigan State University sports fan and would rarely miss a basketball or football game on the television.
She is survived by her three children, William (Colleen) Dobbertien of Mesa, Arizona, Nancy (Don Rau) Dobbertien of Ann Arbor, Jim (Jill) Dobbertien of Coldwater. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jenny Dobbertien, Liam Dobbertien, Curtis Rau, Katy (Jacob) Lenhardt, Emily Olmsted, and special pet Matty. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Sharon Dobbertien in 1979, three sisters, Mildred Weis, Bernadine Flickinger, and Evelyn Bonnelle.
A private service will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Family request memorial contributions be made to the Meals on Wheels or to the Arthritis Foundation.
