The following story is from a paper written by Wendy Mungall. She wrote the
paper as part of a school project. I believe she heard this story from Lillian
Volls and I believe it is accurate. :
Carl Goodman married Sophia Goodman in Germany and had one child, a boy. On
the sailing vessel to the United States another boy was born but both died from
cholera while still on the boat.
Also, while coming over, the boat got lost for a time. Finally when they
landed Carl and Sophia went to a friends to stay the night but because they
were so full of bugs that they had to sleep in chairs instead of the
comfortable beds.
After that they bought a farm in Newfane New York and had three more boys
and three girls. The whole family got diptheria and the three boys died.
In 1889, Mary Goodman, one of the three daughters married August Niethe.
They lived on a farm in Wilson and had six children.
